4-Day Trip In Chapada Diamantina: Explore Fumaça Waterfall And Mixila Waterfall

Day 1
We will leave Lençóis in the morning towards the Capivara River, passing by the old Estrada do Garimpo. After about 40 minutes, we will arrive at Serra do Bode, where we will start the trail and after 1 hour of steep climb and 1 more hour of light walk, from which we will see traces of gold mining and also the Marimbus (mini wetland of Chapada Diamantina), we will arrive to the top of the Capivari Waterfall, which is 45 meters high and has an incredible view. We will go down a trail to Capivari’s natural pool to enjoy the afternoon with a refreshing bath. Right after enjoying the waterfall, we continue upstream by trail, for about 40 minutes, to Cachoeira do Poção where we can also enjoy another delicious bath and have a good meal. We will spend the night camped on site!

Day 2
After a hearty coffee, we went up the river bed, jumping from stone to stone, passing through narrow canyons with green walls and deep wells to the Mixila Waterfall. The walk of about 2 hours, displays an incredible variety of orchid species and some waterfalls that make it really incredible. This waterfall was kept secret for many years due to this different access that depends on the crossing of two swimming lakes, but don’t worry: they are calm water lakes, being easy to cross them. The trail and the waterfall alone are more than enough rewards for the effort to reach them.
Afterwards, we will return down the river to the Camp do Poção where we will have a snack and, soon after, we will follow by trail and stones until the Cachoeira da Capivara or Palmital (we will camp in one of these places depending on the development of the group walk) where we will camp and rest one more night.

Day 3
We leave the camp in the morning and proceed to the base of Serra do Macaco, where we will leave the camping equipment and take a trail for about 3 hours to visit the Fumaça waterfall from below. The vegetation during trekking is diverse, containing cerrado biomes, rupestrian fields and Atlantic forest. After glimpsing the almost 400 meters of the second largest Brazilian waterfall and the third largest in Latin America, we will return for another night of camping at the base of Serra do Macaco.

Day 4
Soon after another breakfast, we will climb the steep Serra do Macaco that will take us to the top of Cachoeira da Fumaça. Once there, we will appreciate the indescribable view of a valley that reaches 400 meters in height and the waterfall with 380 meters, a mixture of serenity and strength. After contemplating the chapadões of the region and the waterfalls from this privileged view, we will have lunch and then follow a trail of just over 2 hours that will take us to Vale do Capão. At the base of the Fumaça trail in Vale do Capão our team will be waiting to make the return to Lençóis.
