Join us on board for a 5 hour, interactive and personalised tour through the Bay of Islands. Catering to 20 guests maximum, escape the crowds and explore off the beaten track. With two island stopovers, island walks to breathtaking viewpoints, marine wildlife, sightseeing, snorkelling, swimming, commentary and history throughout the day.

Departing 10am from Paihia, we cruise the sheltered coastline towards the out islands of the bay. Keep an eye out for penguins and sea birds as we cruise, and if we are lucky, there is a possibility of sighting dolphins along the way.

Our first stop brings us to Roberton Island (AKA – Twin Lagoons) where Captain James Cook first landed in 1769. A short walk takes you to the top of the lookout point, with breathtaking 360 degree views over the bay. On return from the walk, relax and enjoy beachside morning tea – Coffee, Tea & Biscuits. As we finish morning tea, there will be time to explore the twin lagoons before stepping back on board our vessel and cruising further into the remote islands.

Our second stop aims to take us into some of New Zealands most unfrequented bays – Escaping the Crowds! Here we have plenty of opportunity to explore the island, try snorkelling our island reefs, give Stand-Up Paddleboarding a try, relax on the beach or take a swim in the calm sheltered waters. For those that wish to take another walk along the island trail, there are amazing viewpoints over the outer islands.

As our afternoon activities finish, we begin our scenic cruise back towards Paihia for a 3pm arrival.

- FAQ

Where do we meet for our cruise?
We meet at the Salt Air Office, located next to the maritime building on Paihia Wharf. If you have a prearranged pickup from Russell, we will meet you next to the Russell information centre on the end of the Wharf. Please arrive 10 minutes before your departure time.
What if the weather is bad?
Customer safety is our priority and cancellations due to weather conditions are rare. Cruises will proceed as scheduled in light rain and other mild weather conditions as we have the option to fully enclose our vessel to accommodate most weather conditions. In the unlikely event we have to cancel a cruise due to extreme weather or for safety reasons, a full refund will be issued if an alternate date cannot be arranged.
How many islands do we visit?
The Bay of Islands has 144 islands. We cruise passed most of them, and our Island Getaway trip has two island stops with opportunity to discover and explore some of New Zealands most unfrequented beaches. Our Evening Cruise takes us to one island for the chance to walk to the lookout point, enjoy complimentary nibbles and relax as the sun goes down.
Do we see dolphins and other wildlife?
The Bay of Islands is full of marine life, and dolohins are often spotted on our cruises. At Sea Shuttle Bay of Islands we encourage and support the conservation of all wildlife by observing from afar without disturbing their natural behaviours and environment. There is always a possible chance of spotting dolphins, whales, penguins, sharks, New Zealand Dotterel, Australasian Gannets and various other Bay of Islands unique wildlife
Do you have toilet facilities on board?
Yes! On board our vessel we have a marine toilet.
