In this walking tour you’ll learn about the Basque rural history, such as the evolution of the villages and the typical “caserios”. You’ll try the local and ecological juice and cider in a genuine Basque rural house and cider house, including typical dishes such as the codfish omelette, the “txistorra” sousege and the sheep’s cheese with quince jelly.

During this walk, you’ll discover an off the beaten path valley and medieval town that used to be flourishing with national and international visitors around 200 years ago, but now not many visit. You’ll also understand how the rural landscape has evolved hand in hand with the local history through centuries, from prehistorical time until nowadays

At the cider house, located at a rural neighbourhood up a hill, you’ll understand the process involved in juice and cider making. With the company of its owners, you’ll taste typical dishes such as cod fish omelette and sheep’s cheese with quince jelly. We’ll move by foot and public transport, which will allow you to merge with the local life style.

- What Will You Do

1. San Sebastián
Meet your guide 10 minutes before the departing of the bus and get an introduction to the experience.

2. Zestoa
We'll walk through the main sights of this village and understand the evolution of the rural landscape since palaeolithical times until nowadays.

3. Iraeta
We'll walk trough a rural neighbourhood and understand some key features of the landscape and how they have shaped the land use of this territory through the centuries.

4. Ibañarrieta
We'll tour Ekain cider house and try their local products, like their ecological produced Cider and Apple Juice.

5. Zumaia
We'll finish this route at the coastal village of Zumaia, where you'll have plenty of public transport options to go back to your accommodation by yourself.
