Vintage Car Tour – South Tagus Margin – Cristo Rei & Beach

We begin this journey crossing the Tagus river amazing 25 of April bridge. It separates the banks of the extensive Tagus River and goes to Almada which is much more than a “balcony” with privileged view over Lisbon and there we find the imposing statue of Christ the King.
The Christ the King Statue idea was born in 1934 during a visit of the Cardinal Patriarch of Lisbon to Brazil, D. Manuel Gonçalves Cerejeira, that when passing through Rio de Janeiro saw the imposing image of Christ the Redeemer of Corcovado and soon in his heart was born the desire to build similar work in front of Lisbon.
In 1936 the idea of building a monument to Christ the King was sent to the “Apostleship of Prayer” that welcomed the idea enthusiastically.
To be National Monument it needed approval and cooperation of all the Portuguese Bishops.
We continue our tour to the city of Costa da Caparica where we highlight a length of over 13 km of beaches enriched by natural reserves.
