Island of Boa Vista

Boa Vista is an island of Cape Verde, off the coast of West Africa. It is known for the sand dunes and volcanic landscapes similar to the moon of the Viana Desert. The white sandy beaches include Tortuga and the sprawling Santa Monica. Sea turtles are known to reproduce on the coast and the coastal waters are a migrating humpback whale route. On an islet opposite the town of Sal Rei, there are the remains of a fort from the 19th century.
