A popular destination for sun-seekers, Faro has a reputation as being an overrun party beach town for much of the year. Visitors who use it as a base to explore the more remote areas of the Algarve in the off-season will experience much more of what southern Portugal has to offer; but those looking for no more than a tan and cocktails won't be disappointed. In winter, it is a beautiful, peaceful corner of Southern Europe with plenty sun shining in the town with Iberian and Moorish-influenced architecture. The people are more friendly than other parts of Europe. Many speak a bit of English, but are very appreciative of any attempts at Portuguese.

The Municipal Museum of Faro was the second created in Algarve and is today the most visited one. What used to be a convent and later a cork factory, since 1894 has worked as a museum. It holds all the history the region of Algarve and is located in the historical center of Faro.
9 - See the Chapel of the Bones in Carmo Church
Founded in 1713, the Carmo Church is a beautiful manifestation of the religious and artistic heritage of the Algarve. Since the 20th century, the church also holds the creepy Chapel of Bones, with the skulls and bones from the local cemetery as decoration.

Due to the large number of college students in the city, Faro has a very active nightlife especially during high season. You will find great bars and restaurants in Downtown, while strolling through the beautiful old streets and enjoying the warm weather.
