About Sintra National Palace

The thousand-year-old history of the Palace of the Town of Sintra began during the Muslim occupation of the Iberian Peninsula. Already mentioned in texts from the 11th century, the original Moorish Palace became the property of the Portuguese Crown after the conquest of the city of Lisbon by Afonso Henriques, the first King of Portugal, in 1147. It was first subjected to alteration work in 1281, in the reign of King Dinis, and new extensions were later added to the building over time, in the reigns of the kings Dinis, João I and Manuel I, although it has largely maintained its present-day outline since the mid-16th century.

"From a timely pickup at our hotel front door and until drop off, it was a magnificent day with our guide Feliciano. He made this a safe, fun and very interesting experience. We had flexibility in planning our day and enjoyed the entire time. The no rushing and yet we saw so much in one full day. The tone and pace made it apparent that this was not a routine nor ritual for our guide. Feliciano was enjoying himself so much that it made it great for us !!! Thanks again. "

"Our tour guide was very informative and very flexible. We were able to see lots of historically significant landmarks in Sintra while also being able to enjoy the beautiful natural scenery. Our guide was flexible and gave us several choices as to what we wanted to see and when. I would definitely recommend this tour!"
★★★★★
"Excellent in every respect. We were asked our preferences and Feliciano took our responses and the weather into consideration. The best part was the off-road component as we drove through low wispy clouds in the forest. We loved the personal approach, and it’s our favourite aspect of a four week holiday. "
