The Highest Rated Bike Tour in Amsterdam
The ultimate Amsterdam biking experience of Dutch culture and identity
Hi Friends! A very warm welcome. First a small introductory message. After Covid19 traveling will never be the same. Many people will continue to avoid big crowds, certainly indoors. The good news is this entire experience takes place outside in the open, fresh air and cycling is good for the immune system. Furthermore, the average group size of this bike tour is only 8 participants. Finally, all bikes are cleaned and disinfected before the start of the tour. So leave your worries behind and hop on!
When you’ve done a boat tour , checked out the Red Light District, visited the Van Gogh museum and maybe even smoked some marijuana , you start to wonder what else Amsterdam has to offer. You see plenty of tourists on rental bikes, but few seem to enjoy cycling and some even look downright scared. Do you want to experience what it’s like to be Dutch, navigating your way through Amsterdam on a bike, all the while feeling relaxed and safe?
This is your lucky day! You found our unique and safe bike tour, which takes place entirely outside the hectic city center. All our tours come under the guided supervision of experienced locals from Amsterdam. This amazing tour is a once in a lifetime experience that is fundamentally different from all other bike tours in Amsterdam. We will avoid crowded, touristy places that you likely already visited anyway. Most importantly, we are not typical tour guides or historians. Instead we are storytellers, entertainers and your friend for a day, with extensive background knowledge of course. In the end, we care about one thing only: that you are enjoying yourself and that you are having a good time (on your bike in Amsterdam) .
During this bike tour, you will see a side of Amsterdam you cannot find in the Lonely Planet or other travel guides. A side of Amsterdam big tour operators won’t cover, because they cannot turn it into a money machine. At TNT we are all avid travelers, so we know what it is like to get stuck in tourist traps and feeling like a number.
Therefore we have created exactly the opposite: an authentic, unique, quintessential experience of Dutch culture and identity. Simply put, we will cycle to and explore places and communities where Amsterdam locals meet, eat, drink, create and socialize. All combined with a balanced mix of art, architecture, humor and socio-cultural and historical context. Not only will you learn what it is like to be Dutch, you will actually experience what it’s like to live as a local in Amsterdam.
During the bike tour, we will cover roughly 10 miles or 15 kilometers with plenty of stops and explanation from your expert friend and local hero. That means the tour is slow paced and fit for all ages. Some prior biking experience is required. The minimum age is 12, unless you booked a private tour or family tour. Our smallest bikes fit children aged 8 and above (for private tours).
We cooperate with a bike shop right around the corner from the meeting point, called David Goliath Bikes. In case you have any special requests (e.g. electric bike, cargo bike, helmet, child seat etc.) they sell and rent out additional equipment.

We will meet under the Water Tower near Cafe Restaurant Amsterdam. I live right around the corner and will tell you a little about the neighborhood. After that we will take 10-15 minutes to make sure everyone is comfortable on their bike.
Our first stop is Amsterdam’s most iconic windmill. From there we head to Westerpark and check out its beautiful art sculptures. Just behind Westerpark we'll visit a neighborhood called Spaarndammerbuurt. It is famous for its architectural style called The Amsterdam School, which greatly inspired Gaudí.
Next we will visit the Houthavens (the former Lumber Port) which is currently under transition from an industrial and polluting part of town into a sustainable residential area. From there we'll take the ferry over the IJ river and head to the NDSM wharf in Amsterdam-North. We'll see loads of street art, graffiti and pop-up art from local prospective artists.
Crossing back over the river IJ we will head to a completely untouched part of the old city. There we will see the canals and old canal houses in their authentic setting without so many people around. Finally, we'll head back to Westerpark and end the tour with a refreshing drink.
Please note I'm not running the bike tour from the bike shop. Staff from the bike shop is not available for questions. Just wait patiently under the water tower and I will meet you there!!
- What To ExpectDuring the bike tour we will see a splendid mix of art, architecture, history and my personal favourite hang outs in Amsterdam. We start with Amsterdam's iconic windmill. I love Westerpark for its many art sculptures. Spaarndammerbuurt showcases some of the finest architectural wonders of The Amsterdam School. Later we will cross the IJ river to check out the NDSM warf where many local underground artist come together. I love this place for its vibe.
