We started the tour with a visit to the National Palace of Sintra, which began in the 15th century with medieval, Gothic, Renaissance and romantic architecture. The Sintra National Palace was a stronghold of the Portuguese Royal Family until the year 1910.
We follow a small walk through the Historic Center of Sintra where you can see the wonderful old streets and take several photos.
We continue the tour with a visit to Quinta da Regaleira, built between 1904 and 1910, based on the imagination of its owner, António Augusto Carvalho Monteiro, and the architect responsible for the project, the Italian Luigi Maninicom. Location in the historic center of the village. It has an architecture that refers to the environments of the monarchy, with a romantic structure, surrounded by gardens, caves, lakes, and enigmatic buildings that bring out the Gothic and Renaissance.
Shortly after lunch at one of our partner restaurants(Menu of the Day) will be served traditional Portuguese food.(included in the value of the Tour)
After lunch, we visit Castelo dos Mouros, also known as Sintra Castle, a fortification built around the 10th century after the Muslim conquest of the Iberian Peninsula, and expanded after the Christian reconquest. Whoever has the opportunity to know this peculiar architecture, located between cliffs and cliffs, will be contemplated with a privileged view that goes to the Atlantic Ocean.
Then we will discover the Pena Palace, the most extravagant Portuguese Palace built on a cliff dominating the entire coast to Lisbon. The Palace is so vastly divine that in 2007 it was considered one of the seven wonders of Portugal. Still, it characterizes itself like the first palace of Europe to have the style of architecture coming from Romanticism. Point to visit: Main Entrance of the Royal Family, Queen D. Amelia’s Chambers, Queen’s Terrace, Noble Hall, Chapel.
We continue the visit to the Chalet and Garden of the Countess of Edla that are located to the west of the Pena Palace. It has an eclectic decor mixed with murals, tiles and corks. Outside there is a vegetation rich in botanical species. What will you visit: Valley of the Lakes, Aviary, Countess Feeder, Gardener’s House, Chalet Stones.
Lastly, a small snack will be served at “A Piriquita” Pastry, where you will taste the famous Pasteis de Sintra. The house was founded in 1862, about 160 years ago. In the 1940s, while much of the World was shattered, a new treasure was born in Sintra. Constância Luísa Cunha, the founder’s daughter, developed the Pillow, a cake filled with sweet egg and with an almond-shaped touch, but with the secret so well kept that only the direct family has access to the recipe of the filling.
