Get to know the church and the Patroness of the island, our “Lady of the Pine”. Surrounding the church and the town square is one of the most popular markets in the Canary Islands, local specialities such as the, chorizo de Teror, sweet blood sausage” , cheeses, Canarian wines, and sweets from the cistercian order of Teror, and more typical products will delight the visitors. In this guided tour, we propose you to visit two of the most important markets in the center of the island of Gran Canaria, both located in the green heart of our island.Once we leave the tourist centers, the bus takes us through the East of Gran Canaria to reach the beautiful village of Teror, as we drive up you’ll notice how the landscape is becoming increasingly green.
Suddenly and about 650 meters above sea level, we meet every Sunday a village full of life, lots of people wanting to have fun. We speak of "Teror", religious capital of Gran Canaria and pilgrimage center known as: "The jewel of the north", Teror invites us to stroll through its narrow streets and enjoy its balconies. Visit the basilica and see the Patroness of Gran Canaria, "La Virgen del Pino". Around the church, in the village square, is one of the most popular markets of the Canary Islands, local specialties such as "chorizo de Teror", "sweet sausages", cheeses, Canarian wines and sweets from Teror's cistercians and many others, will delight the visitor.
We leave Teror to continue through the center of Gran Canaria and our next stop takes us to the typical village of San Mateo and its unmistakable covered market where you will find flowers of a thousand colors, all kinds of plants, local agricultural products, honey, cheese, nuts, tropical fruits, vegetables and a long etc ..., that you can buy at a great price. Likewise, and in another great tent, you will find sort of a flee market where to buy all kinds of products.
In San Mateo you can also see Canarian folklore groups that enliven with their songs and dances typical of the islands. Cheer up and dance with the rest of the island people. Have fun.
