Have you ever been to Silves?

Silves is a delightful fortified town, which was once the ancient capital of the Algarve. Today Silves has a calm and peaceful ambience, but during the Moors era, it was a major defensive stronghold and important trading town.

It is one of the best locations in the Algarve to experience authentic Portugal and to immerse in the compelling history of the region.

Remnants of this illustrious past can be seen while exploring Silves, from the huge red brick castle, the impregnatable town walls, through to the gothic cathedral which was built on the site of a grand mosque.

The town has a unique atmosphere, being very different from the hectic coastal resorts, and reflects the Algarve prior to the modern boom of mass tourism. Within the historic section Silves the town has remained virtually unchanged for more than five hundred years, with almost no hint of modern development.

"The sea was not good for kayaking, so we were offered this alternative on the river, and I think it was the best thing that could have happened !! The guide took us to the interior of the Algarve, and the kayak tour is done between the mountains in the dam of the river Arade. It was phenomenal, there were several birds flying close to us, we were the only group in sight ... Highly recommend!!"
★★★★★
"Loved this day trip to see the countryside of Portugal! Saw a complete different side which was so refreshing! Ask for Miguel he was super funny and knowledgeable and interacted with both us and the kids! Loved every second"

"We went on the all day safari and our driver Miguel really made the day for us. We visited a few local sights and a castle, drove off road through the mountains, went firewater and honey tasting, had lunch and then visited a public fresh water pool. The lunch was 3 courses and unlimited wine and juice; if you wanted more food the restaurant where ready and waiting and we were able to get a second jug of white wine to go with the red with no problems at all and no additional cost. It was a great unique experience that was different to day trips we had done elsewhere and I could not recommend Miguel enough!!"

"Our guide Ricardo was so knowledgeable and showed us the real Algarve (his Algarve) off the beaten track, with some wonderful views and real local food & produce on the way. We visited a castle, Pity Rock, and a wonderful local family and her farm, to name a few of the highlights. We crossed rivers in our robust Landrover and really had a lovely day out. Highly recommended for adventurous people of any age!"
