(English) Portugal Wins Best European Travel Destination Award For The 4th Consecutive Time

It was announced on November 2, 2020, that, for the fourth consecutive year, Portugal won the award for Best Tourist Destination in Europe at the World Travel Awards, the “Oscars of tourism”.

Austria, England, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and Turkey competed for same Europe’s Leading Destination 2020 award.

The “Oscars of tourism”, the World Travel Awards, take place annually and announce the main businesses of the Tourism Industry at a global, continental, and regional level.

In addition to this award, Portugal also won in this edition the World’s Leading Tourism Authority Website award, in which it congratulates the authority of Portugal’s official tourism website, http://www.visitportugal.com/.

In previous years’ editions of the World Travel Awards, Portugal had already won in other categories, such as the World Tourist Destination in 2017, 2018, and 2019. In 2020, the winner of this category was the Maldives Islands.

Portugal Tourism in the Post-Pandemic

In a post-pandemic context, Portugal has launched several protection measures for Portuguese travelers and tourism professionals, such as the Clean & Safe seal, in 2020.

Since a large part of the country’s economy depends on tourism, the population itself has shown group awareness of the resumption of travel in the high season of 2021.
