Caldas de Monchique

Showing 1-4 from 4 tours

Have you ever been to Caldas de Monchique?

Situated roughly 250 metres above sea level, in a beautiful valley of the Serra de Monchique, in the midst of luxuriant vegetation and beautiful sunlight, this spa is an unexpected oasis of peace and tranquillity and a genuine paradise for all those who visit it. The highest point in the mountains is the peak known as Foia, from where there is a magnificent view over a landscape full of contrasts.

A century before the birth of Christ, the waters of Monchique were already much appreciated as a treatment for bodily and spiritual fatigue by the Romans, who gave them the name of "sacred waters", as is proved by the numerous important archaeological finds that have been made in the area round the thermal springs of Monchique.

This is the Algarve with a difference - a peaceful and calm environment that will give you the rest you so cherish.

Nearby, the former Arab capital of Silves deserves a special mention, as does Sagres, a place which evokes memories of the epic period of the Discoveries and their great inspirer, Prince Henry the Navigator (14-15C).

"Loved this day trip to see the countryside of Portugal! Saw a complete different side which was so refreshing! Ask for Miguel he was super funny and knowledgeable and interacted with both us and the kids! Loved every second"

"We went on the all day safari and our driver Miguel really made the day for us. We visited a few local sights and a castle, drove off road through the mountains, went firewater and honey tasting, had lunch and then visited a public fresh water pool. The lunch was 3 courses and unlimited wine and juice; if you wanted more food the restaurant where ready and waiting and we were able to get a second jug of white wine to go with the red with no problems at all and no additional cost. It was a great unique experience that was different to day trips we had done elsewhere and I could not recommend Miguel enough!!"
★★★★★
"Our guide Ricardo was so knowledgeable and showed us the real Algarve (his Algarve) off the beaten track, with some wonderful views and real local food & produce on the way. We visited a castle, Pity Rock, and a wonderful local family and her farm, to name a few of the highlights. We crossed rivers in our robust Landrover and really had a lovely day out. Highly recommended for adventurous people of any age!"
