Place du Tertre

Place du Tertre, which is also considered as heart of Montmartre, is located about 200 meters next to Sacré Coeur.
All the year round, numerous painters and portraitists are working on this place to exhibit and sell their famous paintings. The artists who are allowed to put up their easels own a special concession, that must be renewed every year by the city of Paris. These painters have 1 square meter to issue their paintings and must share this small place with another artist.
The momentary waiting list for artists who want to work on the Place du Tertre is about 10 years. Today, about 300 painters, portraitists and caricaturists are officially working at the Place du Tertre.
