Cruise the spectacular Great Sandy Straits aboard the Milbi ( Butchulla for Sea Turtle) while enjoying fresh local king prawns, canapés, and a glass of champagne.
Hear the legendary tales of the Butchulla people of K’Gari ( Fraser Island ) and surrounds. Discover the Butchulla names and meanings of significant local landmarks, before stepping ashore on Weenandin ( Round Island ).
As the sun sinks beneath the horizon, take a walk in the footsteps of the Butchulla people. Experience the unique coastal lifestyle, uncover the traditional fishing methods and food gathering techniques, whilst listening to the enchanting sounds of the didgeridoo.
Departs Great Sandy Straits Marina at 5.00pm during Summer and 4.30pm during Winter.
- What Will You Do
Take a short boat trip across the Great Sandy Strait before stepping ashore on beautiful Weenandin (Round Island). It is here you will start your journey into the history of the oldest surviving culture on earth through the eyes of a local Butchulla descendant.Once ashore you will have a traditional blessing of ochre paint and welcome to country performed by our Butchulla guide.

What do I need to bring on the tour?
Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, camera, lightweight jacket
What should I expect to see?
As we are entering a marine park, we cannot guarantee what you will see. However, the Great Sandy Marine Park is well known for its abundant marine life including tropical fish, dolphins, dugongs, sea snakes, seabirds, reef sharks and of course turtles.
Is there a shop onboard?
Yes, we have various merchandise, soft drinks, tea/coffee, alcoholic beverages and snacks available. We accept cash or eftpos.
Do you cater for food allergies?
Yes. Please advise at the time of booking your meal requirements and we will happily provide an alternate menu for you.

Where does the tour depart from?
The Milbi departs from the Berth 5, Great Sandy Straits Marina, Buccaneer Drive Urangan Hervey Bay Qld.
Where is Hervey Bay?
Hervey Bay is 300klms north of Brisbane, Queensland.
Is the boat stable?
Yes. The Milbi is a flat bottomed vessel making her very stable. The waters of the marine park are smooth and sheltered waters.
What if the weather is not favourable?
We are always happy to reschedule should the weather become unpleasant on the day of your tour.
What if I need to cancel?
We require 24 hours notice of cancellation for a full refund. There is a 50% cancellation fee for under 24 hours notice OR we can reschedule your ticket for another day. There is no refund issued once the tour has departed the marina.

No smoking is allowed on the vessel
Do you offer private charters?
The Milbi is available for private charter for up to 38 passengers or as few as 10. A private cruise on the Milbi is ideal for any special occasion such as a birthday celebration, corporate function, Christmas party or school groups. Cost vary depending on the size of and requirements of your charter. We will custom design your cruise to perfectly suit your needs. We can also organise catering for you.
