About Old City of Shanghai

Old City is the area inside the the ancient walled city of Shanghai, the city walls ringed the city around what is today Remin and Zhonghua streets. During the era of foreign concessions, the old city remained exclusively Chinese, and foreigners seldom ventured there. These days there are more foreigners, and while the attractions here, touted as the old Shanghai is rather touristy, they are undeniably picturesque. Neither is the "Old Town" exclusively old, tall modern buildings have - like in the rest of the city - started shooting up around the two main streets intersecting the district, but you still have a chance to take in the atmosphere if you wonder into the quaint side streets.

What People Are Saying

★★★★★
"The tour is a wonderful race around the backstreets of a district in Beijing. The individual eateries are small and definitely for the locals - not sure we could find them again. Food is excellent, we had a lovely guide explaining what was going on and the different cuisines, haring round in tuk-tuks through crowded streets. Definitely do it again."
★★★★★
"Authentic, Shanghai Food Tours! If you want to try real Shanghai specialties, do this tour. The places Riuxi took us to, especially eating in a chef’s dining room with probably the best dish of the tour, is not something every other tour company can offer. We really liked the focus on giving business to eateries that are trying to make high quality, chemical-free food. Everything is local, including beers, the tour was a good distance and the history you learn along the way in between stops is fascinating."
