- What Will You Do

The tour begins at 10 a.m. in the Commercial Square, by the Tagus River, with a brief introduction to Lisbon and its history, from pre-historic occupation to the Roman period, the big earthquake of 1755, all the way to present day.

Next we visit the Mayor's Office square, passing the place where King Carlos I and Crown Prince Luís Filipe were murdered in 1908. There we see the Mayor's Office building and the old pillory or whipping post where criminals used to be punished for their crimes. We pass the site where a section of the city’s 13th century wall was recently discovered and proceed to Rossio Square, historically the heart of the city, which today looks very different from its pre-earthquake incarnation, but still has many fascinating stories to tell.

We visit an amazing burned down church, which is still in use, and pass the National Theatre on the way to Lisbon’s former Central Station, a beautiful neo-gothic building from the 19th century. Then we make our way to the Carmo Square, where we see the ruins of the 14th century Carmo Church and enjoy the view from the Santa Justa Lift.

After a short break, we move on to Alfama, through the Chiado, Baixa and Mouraria neighbourhoods, learn the legend of Lisbon’s patron saint and admire the views from Portas do Sol Square, from where we can see the Tagus River and the south bank, and the maze-like Alfama neighbourhood below us.

Finally we immerse ourselves in the narrow alleyways of one of the oldest quarters of Lisbon, and explore some of its secrets. We end our tour by Lisbon’s 12th-century Cathedral and Saint Anthony of Lisbon’s Church, very close to where we started.

- FAQ

Why take a walking tour in the first place? Can I not see Lisbon by myself?
Honestly, yes, you can. Having said that, many of the most interesting places in Lisbon are not obvious and can be hard to find if you don't know your way. And if you want to learn about the places you visit and know their history and stories, and get lots of tips and inside information on the city while you're at it, a guide will be a great help.
How do your walking tours differ from all the others?
We are certain that many other companies offer great tours, but we specialize in walking tours and have been doing them for many years. And we've used that experience to create what we believe are some of the best tours in the city. We hope you'll agree!
How big are the groups?
We keep our groups small (max 12 p) so that you will always feel like you're having a personal experience while at the same time getting the chance to meet, and spend some time with, some like-minded fellow travellers
