Have you ever been to Ria Formosa?

The Ria Formosa lagoon, located in the Algarve, in southern Portugal, is a system of barrier islands that communicates with the sea through six inlets. Five of these inlets are natural and have mobility characteristics.
You can visit during the whole year, since the waters are naturally protected by the islands sand and flora.
Exploring Ria Formosa by kayak or small boat is a must and you will love to discover what each island has to offer.
If you like to observe the birds and maritime life, Ria Formosa is also one of the best places in the world due to the diversity of resident species.
If the reason for the visit is botanical, the area is of great interest, especially for the vegetation of the dune and marsh areas; if it is from the point of view of fauna, the interest is not less, since it is a place of passage of migratory birds between North Africa and Europe and wintering place of birds from the North and Center of the European continent. The cayman or hen-sultana is the emblem of the park and one of the rarest species in Europe, living only in Spain and Portugal, here in the Formosa rim and at the mouth of the Quarteira river. Flamingos, round-winged eagles, galinholas and ranchers are other birds that can be observed here. But you can also "chase" chameleons, privileged inhabitants of the park, almost extinct in Europe!

What People Are Saying

"Even in the winter time, (we did the tour in December) it is a great experience. We had approximately 17°, of course the legs got wet but with a rain jacket and the sun, it was not to cold. We had a great guide (i think his name was something like Lauro), who was very experienced, he took good care of us and had a great knowledge about the area and the animals."
"Well organized and we ere able to enjoy Ria Formosa natural park on our own way. There are some impressive beaches and kayak is the best way to get there. Recommended!"
"Very nice activity in a beautifull environment . We had a very friendly guide! Definately worth to do thuis activity if u like naturel"
"I went on a kayaking trip with my girlfriend with David. You need to ensure you agree a time when there is a low tide to get the most out of your trip (we were lucky!). David was an excellent guide. Very friendly, knowledgeable and engaging and the 2 hour tour was the perfect length. I think it would be difficult to know where to go without a guide."
"What might look at first like a flat expanse of mud and water, to the untrained eye, becomes an amazing wonderland waiting to be explored when you're with one of Lands's brilliant guides. My partner and I spent a fun afternoon kayaking in the lagoon with Francisco, who was very entertaining and clearly knew his stuff. His sense of humour and obvious enjoyment of his job made our experience one to remember."
"Note du 10/10 Ou du 20/20 C'est comme on veut !!! Excellente explication de l'excursion par Hélèna à la réservation à Olhao. Puis Victor et Guillaume au top niveau pour les 5h d'excursions souriants agréables de vrais pros Des explications claires avec un bon parlé français pour Guillaume. Recommandations pour le déjeuner à l'assos des pêcheurs... Un délice pur les papilles. Un GRAND MERCI À EUX TOUS."
