- FAQ

How long does the tour last?
One hour on the water. Please allow up to 2 hours for the whole experience. Please check in at our kiosk 15 minutes before the trip time. We will then do a safety briefing and instruction on how to drive the jetskis on the shore then launch the jetskis.
Do I need a licence to drive a jetski on this tour?
No in New Zealand you don’t need a jet ski licence or drivers licence to drive a jetski.
Is there a minimum age to drive?
The minimum age to drive solo or with a passenger is 18 years old.
Is there a minimum age to ride as a passenger?
Yes, our recommended minimum age to ride as a passenger is 8 years old and Jet Ski Tours Queenstown reserve the right to raise the minimum age on days when the lake conditions are rough. A parent or guardian must accompany any children and fill in our child waiver form. If you have children under 8 years old please contact us before booking.
Where do we go on the tour?
On the day your guide will give you a run down of which areas are the best to head to based on the current lake conditions. We start your trip by cruising out of Queenstown Bay. Once we’re past the 5 knot zone marker we can pick up speed and head for Hidden Island. Once there, out of the major boating lanes, there will be 15 minutes for everyone to play around and get used to their jet ski. The final half hour will be a tour following the guide to explore the lake.
What should I wear?
Wear suitable clothes and footwear on the jetski for the weather as you’ll probably get wet and bring a change of clothes in the cooler months. Bring a waterproof jacket or wind jacket if you have one and a warm upper layer like a thermal or a sweatshirt. We also have a limited supply of windbreakers available for use.
Is there a weight restriction?
Maximum combined weight per jetski for driver and passenger is 230kg.
Do customers need to be able to understand English?
Yes, During the tour verbal instructions will be given by the guide. Drivers and passengers need to be able to understand basic English to go on this tour.
Can I drive the jet ski if I have an injury?
If you have any specific medical condition including breaks or fractures or you suffer from back or neck problems please advise us at time of booking so we can assess and advise your suitability to travel. Unfortunately if you are pregnant or have a serious heart condition we do not recommend that you come out on the tour.
