The morning begins with a stop in the town of Óbidos, which tourists usually fall in love with at a first sight! The town is an open-air museum, still enclosed in a ring of medieval walls, sometimes seems to be fabulous or toy. “The city of Queens” or “wedding gift” — that’s how romantically Óbidos was named in the Middle Ages, when the King gave it as a wedding gift to his young wife. Here they spent their honeymoon. Cute town houses painted in bright colors in Arabic traditions, winding old streets, tidy patios, churches and chapels, a sea of flowers are a feast for the eyes for all passers-by all year. The town has its symbol that should be tasted! It is a brand liqueur “Ginja”, which you can enjoy in a chocolate Cup, as Óbidos is also the chocolate capital of Portugal.

Alcobaça is a Portuguese town in the heart of which the monastery of Santa Maria is situated. Without modesty, this building of pale golden limestone can be called as one of the magnificent buildings of the 12th century. It is a masterpiece of early Gothic style in Portugal. It is in this monastery of King Pedro and his lover Inês, called as Portuguese “Romeo and Juliet”, are buried. The story of eternal love, sad and tragic story, that captures with its drama was glorified by poets, artists, writers and never left anybody indifferent.

In Batalha we will visit the Dominican Abbey of Santa Maria da Vitoria, which is a true masterpiece of late Gothic style, with elements of pure Portuguese Manueline style. The monastery was built by King Joao I to commemorate the victory in the battle of Aljubarotta in 1385. The building of golden limestone amazes with its beauty and power. The monastery became a symbol of the grandeur of the monarchy and the pantheon of the most famous dynasty of Portuguese Kings, the Avis. In the “Chapel of the founder”, which impresses with its starry dome, King Joao I and his wife Philippa of Lancaster are buried, as well as the graves of their children, including the famous Prince Henry the Navigator, can be found. Batalha monastery of Santa Maria da Vitoria is recognized by UNESCO as a monument of the world heritage.

Fatima is one of the main shrines in the Christian world, a place of pilgrimage for millions of people from all over the world. It is here in the distant 1917 the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to three young shepherds and told the children three secrets which became known as “three secrets of Fatima”. Due to the special atmosphere of this place, you can feel appeasement and belief in a miraculous healing. They bring from here the candles, holy water, rosaries, figurines of the Virgin Mary of Fatima or the Holy family for the protection of the family.
